New fibreglass plant goes up in Bahrain

01 April 2008

Bahrain-Based Abahsain Fiber-glass ME (AFG) and China’s Chongqing Polycomb International (CPIC) have signed a memorandum of understanding to set up a glassfibre plant in Bahrain.

Established in 1970, CPIC was the first manufacturer to produce E-glass fiber by the direct-melt process in China in 1986. Today, the company is a leading E-glass and ECR-glass manufacturer in China.
AFG is a joint venture between Saleh & Abdulaziz Abahsain Company of Saudi Arabia and Glass Strand, a leading ECR technology provider from the US.
Work on the new ECR glassfibre factory started last year and the first furnace, with a capacity of 30,000 tpy, will be fully operational this summer.
The joint venture will build a second 30,000 tonne furnace shortly, which will be increased to 120,000 tonnes in 2010, and finally have a capacity of 200,000 tonnes by 2012.
