Tensile structure trends in spotlight

01 October 2008

A symposium on architectural membranes featuring an impressive line-up of international experts is to be held across two Gulf states this month.

Called the International Symposium on Architectural Membranes (ISAM 2008), the event will be held in t the Al Khozamah Hotel in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on October 12; and at the Novotel Hotel in Dubai, UAE, on October 14.
Hosted by Verseidag Indutex, a German specialist in coatings and composite technology, the seminars will bring architects, engineers, contractors, material  specifiers and developers up to date with developments in architectural membrane application.
“The versatility of architectural membranes allows the construction of unique forms which would not be possible with traditional building materials,” comments Mohammad Bahsh, Duraskin business segment manager (Middle East and North Africa) office based in Amman, Jordan. “ISAM 2008 is open to all those involved in the design and implementation of tensile projects, including architects, engineering consultants, public and private developers, specifiers and contractors.”
Speakers at the seminar include Peter Lim from engineering analysis consultancy Tensys, Gerry D’Anza of tensile structure specialist ForTen, Martin Glass of gmp architects, Rainer Blum of testing and certification institute Labor Blum, Michael Wolf of Hightex, and Jörg Tritthardt of Tritthardt Engineers.
Verseidag Indutex has more than 50 years of experience in signage, tensile fabrics, and PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) solutions. Its architectural membranes and textiles for tents and façades are marketed under the Duraskin brand, and are said to  successfully combine outstanding quality, pleasing appearance, superb performance in strength and adhesion, versatility and excellent resistance to ageing, to suit a wide range of situations.
Duraskin PTFE fabrics grace signature buildings across the world, and in the Gulf these include the Burj Al Arab and Zayed University in Dubai, the Abu Dhabi Corniche, and the Sahara Centre in Sharjah, all in the UAE; the Bahrain International Circuit (BIC) in Sakhir, Bahrain; and the Mena pilgrim tents in near Makkah, Saudi Arabia.
