TEREX Equipment Middle East has relocated to a bigger facility in Dubai Investment Park (DIP) in a bid to consolidate its presence in the region.
The company has also broadened its product portfolio and announced plans to enter the road construction business.
Terex is a diversified global manufacturer that operates in four business segments: aerial work platforms, construction, cranes and materials processing and mining. The company set up an office in Dubai in 2007 to support customers of the Genie product range of aerial work platforms and telehandlers as well as Terex light towers, generators, power buggies, utility trucks and transport trailer.
Now, the new premises – located close to Jebel Ali port – consists of 35,000 sq ft of office and warehouse space and will hold a selection of equipment and parts to offer a faster local response.
Gianluca Tabarrini, Terex president for Middle East/Africa, said: “Terex has a strong commitment to the region and our expanded facility will act as a local support centre across all four Terex business segments. This base will not just support the emirates but will also be our hub for the whole Middle East.”
The new facility will perform a dual function. It will support and provide services and spares to people who are based in this region and remote assistance to distributors and customers who are based beyond the day-to-day reach of its field engineers.
The facility will also offer technical training to customers and distributors, first with the Genie AWP product range and later for other Terex products.
Terex has also developed a logistics centre for the whole division. “It is also our future plan to strengthen our logistics base in this part of the world in order to fulfil customer responsiveness,” said Tabarrini.
Meanwhile, in order to create awareness about the new facility and products, Terex recently organised an Open Day at the new DIP facility.
A number of contractors, consultants, distributors and rental companies, from all over the GCC, Jordan and Egypt, as well as a team from Build Safe Dubai, were invited to view the facility as well as some of its latest products including Genie’s S60 and S65 Trax telescopic booms, Terex’s PT60 and PT 80 compact track loaders (CTLs), the GRC 12 self-propelled vertical mast, designed for contractors working indoors and offering 18-ft working heights, and the Terex T90 super-quiet generator designed for the rental industry.
Matt Fearon, vice-president and managing director of Genie Europe, said the open day demonstrated Terex’s capabilities and commitment to the market place. “It offered us an opportunity to introduce our team and to try to listen to the customers and see what we could do to serve this market better.”
In conclusion, Tabarrini said Terex wants to be a global company with a strong local presence. “We have the capacity to service and support this important market. Though the company is fairly new in this part of the world, it has witnessed a steady growth in business. Last year, the region accounted for four per cent of our total sales. Now that we are here, we can go much deeper and integrate better with potential customers with our vast product line. As part of our next step and as a future opportunity for growth, we will be looking at the road building business, which has not been very well developed in this part of the world.”
