Liebherr does star turn

01 April 2009

A CONTRACTOR cramped for space on a mixed-use high-rise project in Sharjah has opted to use a Liebherr luffing jib crane to solve its problems.

Beijing Emirates Contracting is building the tower – which will rise more than 130 m high – on a compact site surrounded by high-rise towers within 5 m of the project.
This posed a potential craneage problem for the UAE-based contractor which was further aggravated with a highway bordering the third side of the compact site – as local laws prohibit the jib to encroach outside the site’s boundaries.
Beijing Emirates Contracting, therefore, opted to use a Liebherr 112 HC-L luffing jib crane.
The luffing jib crane, ordered through local distributor Gulf Development & Construction (Inma), has been designed for jobs such as this with an extremely restricted work area, according to Liebherr.
Also, the crane is able to slew through 360-degree with a load at a radius of just 8 m, says Liebherr, adding that it features a maximum lift capacity of 12,000 kg.
The tower’s top 30 floors will be used for residential apartments.
