Dewa spends $417m on 13 substations

THE Dubai Water and Electricity Authority (Dewa) has award four contracts for the construction of 13 substations worth a total of Dh1.534 billion ($417 million).

The contracts were awarded by Dewa CEO and managing director Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer at last month’s Wetex (Water Energy Technology Environment) 2009 exhibition in Dubai.
Emirates Trading Agency (ETA) won a Dh786-million ($213 million) contract to build five 132/11 kV substations at Al Wasel, New Hatta, Barsha, Al Hamrya and Al Jadaf, for completion in 20 months, as well as a 132/33 kV substation at New Lusaily, for completion in 21 months.
Bahwan was awarded a Dh224-million ($60.98-million) contract to build two 132/11 kV substations at Knowledge – International Media Production Zone Area and Najma 2 areas, for completion in 22 and 21 months respectively.
Danway won a third contract worth Dh194 million ($52.8 million) to build two 132/11 kV substations at Earth Station – Gardens Discovery and International City – 4 areas, for completion in 22 and 21 months respectively, while a fourth contract worth Dh330 million ($89.8 million) was awarded to Emirates Electrical Establishment (EEE) for three 132/11 kV substations in New Garhoud, Jafza South-2, and Industrial City – 4 areas.
Al Tayer urged contractors to comply with quality and safety at all stages of the projects and to execute them within their respective time-frames. He said Dewa would extend its full cooperation to the contractors to complete the projects successfully on time.
