ACW puts focus on $2trn projects

01 May 2010

TWO regional summits and three dedicated vertical trade exhibitions on sustainability, innovation and infrastructure will be part of the Arabian Construction Week (ACW) to be held this month (May 24 to 26), at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (Adnec) in the UAE capital.

Meed’s 2010 Arabian World Construction Summit (AWCS) will turn the spotlight on the $2 trillion worth of projects planned or under way in the GCC countries and the opportunities available for the global construction and investment community, organisers said. Themed ‘Growing in a Challenging Market’, AWCS will host more than 50 expert speakers from the Arab world highlighting key business opportunities and addressing topical issues that currently impact the industry. More than 400 international delegates are expected to attend.
ACW, the region’s international construction exhibition, will concurrently feature another regional event, The Green Building Middle East Summit, besides incorporating the three trade exhibitions: the inaugural Future Build Middle East exhibition; Green Building Middle East; and Civil Engineering Middle East, covering an area of more than 8,000 sq m.
Organisers said Future Build Middle East will focus on world-changing technologies and product debuts in the building and construction sectors, bringing together leading architects, construction companies, contractors, developers, interior designers, facilities management professionals, surveyors and clients interested in the design and fit-out of construction projects.
Chris Hudson, managing director of Mecom Forums and partner of Clarion Events, said: “With the constantly changing market dynamics, we aim to make sure that products designed to reduce costs, maximise efficiency and meet the demands of future build environment, are readily available in this market.
“Future Build Middle East will set the stage for premier companies to launch new building materials, solutions and concepts in the $500 billion regional construction market. It will be a perfect platform for industry leaders to exchange innovative ideas and products, while offering new opportunities to key clientele.”
Future Build Middle East is designed to serve as a platform for suppliers to showcase the latest technology and solutions that will be sourced for the internal and external building envelope by existing and future projects being created within the Middle East, North Africa and Asia. The expanding opportunities are expected to translate into a vast array of multibillion-dollar development projects, new cities, malls, hotels, business complexes, schools and hospitals.
From concept, design, implementation and build engineering, Future Build Middle East will offer live product demonstrations, informal meeting and networking opportunities and a choice of some of the best suppliers.
Nader Elhajj, director of operations, FrameCad Middle East and Africa, said: “We see demand for affordable and durable buildings increasing substantially in the UAE as well as in other GCC countries where most of the population is still young and are demanding newer housing units that incorporate sustainable and green building materials.”
Future Build Middle East will also feature a wide range of technologies from the construction sector and will help sustainable development in airports, bridges, buildings, coastal and harbours, environment, recycling, flood defence management, geotechnics, housing, power and energy, railways, regional development, retail, structures, transport, tunnelling, water and government sectors.
Organised by Mecom Forums/Clarion Events, ACW will act as a pre-tender sourcing platform for the region’s construction and infrastructure projects.
