SAINT-GOBAIN Gyproc has opened a $60-million plasterboard manufacturing facility in the Industrial City of Abu Dhabi (ICAD) to meet a growing demand for lightweight building systems in the region.
The state-of-the-art facility is the first of its kind for the French company and its local partner Sultan International Holdings, in the Gulf region, with a capacity to produce around 30 million sq m of plasterboard each year, at the 70-hectare site.
Craig Chambers, managing director of Saint-Gobain Gyproc in the Middle East said: “The new factory demonstrates our commitment to the region. We will now be better placed to serve the needs of our customers through local production.”
Saint-Gobain, a world leader in the habitat and construction markets, designs, manufactures and distributes building materials, providing innovative solutions to meet growing demand for energy efficiency and for environmental protection.
ICAD forms part of the strategy of the government of Abu Dhabi, to support development projects and to establish modern factories to keep pace with industrialisation.
Mohammad Hassan Al Qamzi, CEO, ZonesCorp, said: “Having this facility here reflects ZonesCorp’s keen interest in attracting key players from the world of industry.”
