Pultron factory to serve regional market

01 June 2010

NEW Zealand’s Pultron Composites has launched a purpose-built factory for the manufacture of fibre-reinforced plastic (FRP) rebar in the UAE, in a strategic move to better serve its customer base in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain and Oman.

The facility – Dubai’s first pultrusion factory – in the Jebel Ali Free Zone was opened by New Zealand’s Minister of Trade Tim Groser.
Pultron Composites serves the construction industry through world-class pultrusion technology, which transforms fibre and specialty resins into reinforced materials with high strength, light weight, corrosive and electrical-resistant properties for use in harsh environments where corrosion can dramatically limit the lifespan of steel.
The reinforced materials or rebar produced are also non-electric and non-magnetic, making them suitable for use in various applications including aluminium smelters, waterfront developments and MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) rooms in hospitals.
Pultron managing director Jasper Holdsworth said: “This opening marks a key milestone in Pultron’s strategy to enable local manufacture of Mateenbar, a cost-effective, more durable substitute for steel reinforcement.”
New Zealand Trade and Enterprise’s Dubai-based trade commissioner Wayne Mikkelsen commented: “The opening of the new Pultrusion factory here in the Jebel Ali Free Zone will provide the perfect base for Pultron Composites to take their products to the wider Gulf market, and is also an excellent development for the UAE construction sector as a whole.”
The company has been operating in the GCC market for the last seven years and is fast expanding its operations in this region.
