DORMA, which was a major supplier to the UAE’s Burj Khalifa project, the world’s tallest tower, has reached a historic milestone of 100 million door closers, underlining its position as a world market leader in the door system segment.
The German door system specialist’s manufacturing record includes 10 million cam-action units manufactured since 1986. Some 1,500 of these units – known as the TS 93 – are currently in operation at the Burj Khalifa in Dubai.
These high-quality cam-action door closers feature an advanced ‘easy open’ technology, which offers a rapid decrease in opening resistance, enabling doors to be opened with 40 per cent less effort than that required for conventional closers.
“The significance of this technology is underscored by the recommendations of DIN SPEC 1104 /CEN/TR 15894, a report published as a guide for specifiers,” says a spokesman for the UAE-based Dorma Gulf Door Controls.
“This contains recommendations on the equipment to be installed on doors in both residential and commercial buildings to facilitate effortless door operation for children, the elderly and disabled people. Essentially, DIN SPEC 1104 advises the application of manually-operated fittings that reduce the opening resistance of a door by around 40 per cent in the sweep range from two to 60 degrees, and Dorma’s heart-shaped cam-action door closers totally meet this requirement.”
Since it began producing door closers in 1950, Dorma has developed into an international supplier of door technology products and systems, which includes door controls, movable walls and glass fittings and accessories.
The company is also a successful player in the security, time management and access control segment.
