Insight into Mideast rail sector
THE Second Middle East Rail Opportunities conference will be held in Qatar’s capital, Doha, next month (May 9 and 10) where case studies, panel discussions and networking with experts and industry leaders will give delegates an interactive, experience-driven learning opportunity, says the organiser Fleming Gulf.
The speaker panel comprising a number of renowned transport veterans including Geoff Brian Mee, Qatar Railways Development Company (QRDC), Dr Habib Zein Al Abideen of the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs (Momra), and Iain R M Cameron, Qatar Project Management, to name a few, will discuss topics such as existing challenges and upcoming opportunities for the private sector in region’s rail sector, key financing strategies for rail projects, the role of innovative technology in ensuring safety and reducing maintenance.
The event will provide the latest updates on the mega projects and also focus on various successful financial models implemented in various rail projects within and outside the Middle East region.
Corrosion meet calls for papers
ORGANISERS of the 14th Middle East Corrosion Conference and Exhibition planned for February (12 to 15) next year in Manama, Bahrain, have invited engineers and research scientists to submit for papers for the event by May 1.
The conference’s technical programme will be covering various disciplines of corrosion prevention and control. The exhibition running parallel with the conference will demonstrate the latest developments in products, solutions and services in the industry.
More than 600 delegates attended the 13th Middle East Corrosion Conference and Exhibition last year, while 26 companies participated as sponsors and 55 companies as exhibitors. There were a total of 135 technical papers presented.
RAK Ceramics’ top products on display
RAK Ceramics, the world’s largest ceramic tiles and sanitary ware manufacturing company, showcased its top-of-the-line bath ware at the International Sanitation Heating (ISH) trade show held recently in Frankfurt, Germany.

Qatar debut for Masterclass
THE internationally-acclaimed Masterclass in Construction Delay and Disruption will be held this year in Doha, Qatar, for the first time on May 9 and 10, said Hill International and the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) jointly.
Established in 2000, the Masterclass brings together 16 internationally-renowned speakers from construction and construction law. The two-day event will focus on the latest legal updates, technical instruction, and the future of construction in Qatar and the GCC region, providing the tools necessary for professionals to understand, manage and avoid delay, disruption and disputes in construction projects.
Cevisama goes global
CEVISAMA, the international ceramics, natural stone and bathroom equipment fair, has closed its 2011 edition with better quality and more international visitors.
The show, which was held in Valencia, Spain, in February (8 to 11), registered an eight per cent increase in the number of exhibitors while the number of brands represented also rose by 39 per cent.
The fair received 77,104 visitors during the five exhibition days. About 12,489 were foreign visitors from 148 different countries, 16 per cent of the total and an increase of 14 per cent over the previous edition – figures that make Cevisama’s 29th edition one of the most international ones.
“Cevisama has hosted 1,590 Arab buyers of a great potential which is an unprecedented success,” says a spokesman for the organiser.
This year, the fair also launched a specific exhibition offer for the bathroom industry, which has boosted the fair’s appeal.
Cevisama 2012 will take place from February 7 to 10.
Wetex 2012 nearly half full
THE 13th Water Technology, Energy and Environment Exhibition, Wetex 2011, concluded with a very positive note, and with 47 per cent of space already booked for next year’s show to be held from March 13 to 15.
Some 720 organisations from 25 countries participated in the show from all over the world, compared to 500 last year. The show featured a total of eight international pavilions.
The exhibition showcased the best solutions including agricultural equipment as well as desalination systems and modern systems of irrigation, water pumping equipment, boilers, cables, electric transformers, conductors, energy saving products, pipes, valves, generators, energy and water distributing equipment.
Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, managing director and CEO of Dewa and chairman of the Wetex Organising Committee said the show had achieved its goals of enhancing interaction between industry players and people.
