Emo Hannover eyes more Mideast visitors

01 April 2011

GROWING manufacturing activity in the UAE and the rest of the Middle East is expected to drive an increased number of visitors to EMO Hannover.

Organised by the German Machine Tool Builders’ Association (VDW) and trade fair giant Deutsche Messe, the  show takes place in Hanover, Germany, from September 19 to 24.

The biennial EMO is a global forum for international manufacturers in the metalworking world. Its principal focus is on cutting and forming machine tools, manufacturing systems, precision tools, automated materials flows, computer technology, industrial electronics and accessories.

“EMO Hannover is the marketplace where innovative supply meets sophisticated demand,” explained VDW president Dr Wilfried Schäfer.

The 2007 edition had 2,100 companies from 42 countries and attracted a total of 166,500 visitors, including 600 from the UAE and Saudi Arabia.

Though the show was not held in 2009,  this year the organisers are expecting an increased number of visitors from the Middle East as a result of rise in manufacturing activity in the region. “The show has a lot to offer users of machine tools in the UAE as Germany is the third-largest machine tool supplier to the UAE while the UAE is the largest buyer of German goods in the Arab world,” he says.

An EMO conference on sustainable manufacturing will also be held on September 20 and 21 by the Fraunhofer Institute for Machine Tool and Forming Technology (IWU), Chemnitz, and VDW. It will focus on technical solutions for improving the efficiency of cutting and forming machine tools and manufacturing processes, efficient plant design and process chains, production planning and manufacturing systems aimed at sustainability.

Other highlights include a b2fair aimed at initiating new business contacts. A database will be used to arrange meetings between visitors and exhibitors, to help initiate international partnerships or find new clients, suppliers or trade partners.
