Mahindra opens Sharjah facility
MAHINDRA Middle East Electrical Steel Service Centre (MME), a joint venture between Mahindra Intertrade of India and Nippon Steel Corporation (NSC) of Japan, has launched its state-of-the-art transformer cores facility in Sharjah.
Set up at a capital expenditure of $3.5 million, the plant has been designed for an annual throughput of 5,000 tonnes of transformer cores with an aggregate annual turnover at designed capacity (18 million at present) of $30 million.
Given MME’s raw material linkage with NSC, a leading manufacturer of electrical steel in the world, and its in-house slitting and cut-to-length capabilities, the facility is claimed to offer an unmatched value proposition to power transformer manufacturers located in the GCC region such as ABB, Siemens, Votamp, Wescosa, Emirates, Global transformer and Eurogulf.
“MME’s transformer cores facility is based on state-of-the-art technology with equipment sourced from the world leader in lamination line technology, Heinrich Georg Maschinenfabrik, Germany, and will bridge a critical supply chain gap for transformer majors located in the Middle East,” said Harsh Kumar, managing director, Mahindra Intertrade.
