A GERMAN engineering company has secured a contract for the design of a solar project located in Dubai.
Munich-based ILF Beratende-Ingenieure along with Dubai Electricity and Water Authority’s (Dewa) branch office in Abu Dhabi were awarded this large-scale assignment for the design of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park against stiff competition from numerous international companies.
“We will be working on this project starting from the study for the entire 1,000 MW solar park with CSP/PV (concentrating solar power/photovoltaic) technologies to the tender design, site supervision, start-up and the acceptance test for the 10 MW photovoltaic power plant,” Bernhard Lässer, managing director of ILF in Munich, said.
The entire solar project will cost approximately €2.4 billion ($3.2 billion) and comprise an area of 48 sq km.
The overall goal of the developers is reaching a capacity of 1,000 MW by 2030. This is to cover at least five per cent of the energy demand of the UAE.
The first project will see the construction of a 10 MW photovoltaic power plant, which is to be connected to the grid in mid-2013.
The construction works are scheduled to begin this year.
