DHCC work to start in August

01 June 2003

Construction work on the first buildings of the $1.8 billion Dubai Healthcare City (DHCC) is due to begin in August.

The first buildings, set for completion in the summer of 2004, will include out-patient clinics, diagnostic centres, medical offices and pharmaceutical company offices.

Work on the 4.1 million sq ft site in Bur Dubai started last month.

Officials of DHCC recently met with the projects architects, Ellerbe Becket, to put the final touches on the masterplan for the first phase.

The 'core' of the healthcare cluster economy is a University Medical Complex, consisting of a University Specialty Hospital, a Post-Graduate Medical School and Nursing School, and a Life Science Research Centre.

The first buildings will be only a few feet from the proposed University Medical Complex. Work on the complex is expected to begin in the first quarter of next year and take two years to complete.
