Mega maritime city on cards
Dubai: Dubai's Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation (PCFC) is developing a Dh650 million ($177 million) project, slated to be the world's largest maritime development.
The Dubai Maritime City is to be built on 25 million sq ft man-made peninsula between Port Rashid and Dubai DryDock, media reports said. It will include a marine academy, research centre and naval museum.
32Group builds Marina tower
Manama: International property developer 32Group's Dubai office has announced the launch of the Marina Sail Tower, a 21-storey waterfront property in Dubai Marina. 32Group will have a 30 per cent interest in the tower and it will be 70 per cent owned by Mega Properties. The tower comprises one, two and three-bedroom luxury apartments and a penthouse.
The excavation work started in April and the project will be completed by December 2004. Handing over of the apartment to the buyers will be in February 2005. Local Khatib and Alami has designed the tower.
Tenders due for apartments
Sharjah: Citadel Properties plans to invite bids soon for a Dh180 million ($49 million) furnished apartments project in Sharjah.
The project, which has a timeframe of 30 months, is envisaged as a four-star furnished apartment block with 350 rooms.
The Sharjah-based company, which developed the Sharjah Megamall, is now building a ferris wheel mounted atop a futuristic building right on the Buhairah Corniche. The Dh28 million wheel will tower 25 storeys above ground level. The ground-breaking is scheduled for July, and the work should be completed in one year.
Another ongoing project in the Citadel roster is a Dh26 million multistorey car-park cum multi-level showroom with an adjacent 10-storey office complex. Work on the office building is expected to begin in 2004.
Atkins consultant for autodrome
Manama: WS Atkins has been appointed as engineering consultant for the Dubai autodrome and business park development.
The project comprises a business park, a 5.4-km race circuit to full FIA specifications with future capacity for an F1 race event, indoor and outdoor go-karting tracks and an off-road driving course. The 7.5-sq km park will also feature a racing school, retail outlets, restaurants and many other attractions.
Atkins' civil engineering team in Abu Dhabi is working closely with the circuit concept designer, West Surrey Racing (WSR) to produce the civil engineering packages.
Phase 1 is to be completed in the first quarter of 2004.
