Plans for a new $1 billion, 1,200 MW power plant in Bahrain, have been unveiled last month.
Tenders for the plant, to come up at Ad Dur, will be announced for the private sector before the end of the year, Electricity and Water under-secretary Abdul Majeed Al Awadhi said on the sidelines of the opening of the fourth Institute for Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE)-GCC conference and exhibition held under the patronage of Prime Minister Shaikh Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa.
The demand for power in Bahrain rose by 12 per cent this year and that calls for covering this increase through new projects, he said.
Speaking about the power link among GCC states, Al Awadhi said that 45 per cent of the scheme has been completed across Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Kuwait.
