Sabban Tower completes superstructure works

01 December 2007

Sabban Property Investments (SPI) has completed construction of the superstructure on the QR1 billion ($275 million) Sabban Towers project, currently under construction on The Pearl-Qatar.

The project is scheduled for completion in the second quarter of 2008.
As a part of its decision to make Sabban Towers the first carbon-neutral development in the region, the developer has also reduced carbon emissions by 14.4 per cent by investing into value-added engineering processes in the construction phase.
Some of the features include the use of high thermal value block cladding, which optimises insulation and lowers the need for artificial cooling. Changes in the electrical and mechanical specifications including low-energy lighting and the usage of Class A appliances in all units of the Sabban Towers will also minimise future energy consumption. Patented skim coat plaster has been used to replace materials for the finishing of the internal walls, again reducing the need for cement.
“Our carbon footprint analysis showed that most significant contributors to Sabban Towers’ carbon footprint were the use of concrete and steel. We were able to reduce consumption of both by utilising better building materials, which needed more highly skilled labour to work with specialised materials. This in effect created a better building for our clients and the environment at no extra cost,” says John Browne, managing director of Sabban Property Investments.
