Key projects get approval

Key new projects costing more than BD20 million ($53 million) have been approved by Prime Minister Shaikh Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa to develop Bahrain's infrastructure.
They include:
New runway at Bahrain International Airport for emergency landing. The BD7.8 million project will be built by Haji Hassan Group within 15 months;
Flyover at Wali Al Ahad and Shaikh Khalifa bin Salman Highway in Riffa. The BD2.6 million development is to be constructed by Cybarco;
Second stage of a project to recycle sewage water around the country. Habib Ali Awachi will implement the BD2.2 million project;
Sewage system third phase in West Riffa. Ahmed Mansoor Al Aali will start work on the BD1.7 million project in September for completion in two years;
Sewage system in Maqsha. Downtown Construction is the contractor on the BD1.6 million project which is due for completion in October 2004;
A new headquarters in Isa Town for the Central Statistics Organisation (BD1.4 million). Mohammed Jalal and Sons will build the three-storey centre in 16 months;
Third stage of a sewerage system in Juffair. The BD1.2 million project will be carried out by Mohsin Hali Ali Group by September 2004;
Resurfacing of Shaikh Khalifa bin Salman Highway. Eastern Asphalt is the contractor on the BD880,000 project;
Construction of sewage system in Mehaza, Sitra (BD428,000);
Sewage system at Isa Town (BD254,000); and,
An academic building at Fatma Bint Assad School for Girls (BD186,000).
