Deal inked for Dubai substations

Dubai: A consortium of Mitsubishi Corp and Mitsubishi Electric Corporation has won a Dh94 million ($25.59 million) contract to design, construct and commission three 132/11 kV substations in Dubai, UAE.

The project is currently in the design stage with work expected to begin by the year-end. The client is the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa).

Full commissioning of the three transmission stations is scheduled at the end of 16 months beginning April, a Mitsubishi Corp official said. The timespan also takes into consideration two months for a reliability run.

The three substations are coming up in Hudheiba, Hadeeqa and Ittihad.

Chapo to work on Seef complex

Manama: Charilaos Apostolides (Chapo) has been awarded a contract for the construction of a BD1.2 million ($3.2 million) office complex in Bahrain's Seef District by the Jaffaria Waqf Directorate.

Work on the five-storey building in one of the prime locations in Seef is to be completed in 10 months.

The building will comprise a ground floor, which is dedicated for parking and four upper floors of office spaces, said Mohammed Salahuddin, managing director of Mohamed Salahuddin Consulting Engineering Bureau (MSCEB), the consultant on the project.

The 600 sq m office space available on each floor has been designed to be sub-divided into four smaller offices, if required.

Three projects get go-ahead

Manama: Three government projects in Bahrain worth a combined BD2.47 million ($6.57 million), have been given the go-ahead.

These include a BD219,560 new academic building is to be built in the West Riffa Secondary Girls School and a multi-purpose hall at the Hoora Secondary School for Girls costing BD205,200.

Work will also start soon on a BD2.05 million sewerage network in Manamato be completed over the next 24 months. The project will include laying down 20.4 km of pipeline and the building of seven storage facilities.

Diabetes centre to be built

Manama: Key Construction has been awarded a construction contract for the BD2.5 million ($6.6 million) Joslin Diabetes Centre Affiliate-Bahrain behind Sulmaniya Medical Complex in Bahrain.

The consultant on the project is Arif Sadiq Design Consultants.

The construction of the centre is expected to be completed in one year. The centre will be affiliated with the US-based Joslin Diabetes Centre, an international centre of excellence in diabetic care.
