US Chiller Services has successfully reconditioned and modernised a 24-year-old, 320-ton air-cooled Trane centrifugal chiller to 2002 technology and condition.
''The chiller manufacturer wanted the owners to replace the old chiller with a new screw chiller,'' says a Bahrain-based spokesman for US Chiller. ''US Chiller however disagreed with this recommendation and engineered a solution allowing the owners to keep the more dependable and efficient centrifugal chiller technology, and also saving them thousands of dollars in unnecessary equipment and installation cost.''
Elaborating on the job, he says: ''The project included replacing the existing condenser coils with new more efficient and higher-capacity condenser coils, engineered by US Chiller Services, and custom-fabricated by Coil Tech, the firm's joint venture partner in the Middle East. In addition, the centrifugal compressor was completely overhauled and all bearings, seals and Orings replaced; the entire chiller was stripped down to its frame supports, rustproofed and painted - including fan sections, supports, fan motors, and fan cowlings. The chiller barrel was reinsulated and painted, the outdated electromechanical controls were removed and a new microprocessor-based control system manufactured to US Chiller requirements was installed with more sensor inputs and control outputs than the factory installs on its new equipment. The chiller starter was completely rewired and microprocessor controls/current transformers/and safety features were installed. The company also provided a two-year warrantee/guarantee and preventive maintenance service, as well as an extended warrantee on the condenser coils for five years.''
The company's warrantee/guarantee/maintenance service programme is far superior to the one manufacturers provide on purchase of a new chiller, he says.
''The solutions and services we are providing in the region are revolutionary and owners of older equipment are no longer at the mercy of the equipment manufacturers which want them to purchase new unnecessary and costly equipment,'' says Dan Mizesko, US Chiller Services managing partner Middle East. ''US Chiller Services is the only company in the Middle East certified to service and repair Carrier, Trane, York, and McQuay chillers.''
The chiller retrofit/modernisation pilot project was completed at the end of June, and US Chiller Services has already been given approval to proceed with the retrofit/modernisation of another Trane chiller at the same facility.
