Malaysian firm wins college deal

United Engineers (Malaysia) Berhad has won a contract to carry out the main works package on a planned QR363.9 million ($100 million) technology college.

The College of Technology is being set up by the Qatar government and run by Canada's College of the North Atlantic. The consultant is the local office of KEO International Consultants.

The college, which will be sited southwest of Qatar University, will have a total floor area of 63,000 sq m.

The main works contract (package 2) calls for the construction of engineering, administration, and business management buildings, an information/IT auditorium and a cafeteria. In addition, United Engineers will also install utilities, a central plant and parking facilities and landscaping works.

The college has already started taking students, and is now housed in temporary premises.
