Name change for Bahrain contractor

01 June 2003

Cybarco Bahrain is set to formally launch its new image this month with a name change. The company will now be known as Cebarco Bahrain - short for Civil Engineering, Building and Roads Company.

The 100 per cent Bahraini-owned contracting company has been restructuring its operations over the past few years to transform itself into a modern well-focused organisation.

"This latest move is a further step in our restructuring efforts and is aimed at reinforcing our new identity as an international contracting company," says Khalid M A Rahim, chairman and chief executive of Cebarco Bahrain. "We also wish to maintain and enhance the reputation we have gained over the years."

"The name change will keep the English spelling in line with the Arabic pronunciation of the name. A new corporate logo has been designed to depict the growth and forward-focused image of the company," he adds.

Cebarco will form a key company under the newly-established Khalid Abdul Rahim group of companies.

Cebarco has clinched most of the major projects under way in Bahrain.

These include the prestigious Formula One Race Track - work on which is well under way for completion next March - as well as the Seef flyovers and the Shaikh Isa bin Sulman Al Khalifa library in Juffair.

Cebarco is also in negotiations with international companies in a bid to expand its horizons and carry out work overseas.

Work on the BD56.2 million ($149 million) Bahrain Racing Circuit in Sakhir is on track.

The project is scheduled for completion by March 7 next year. Construction began in November at the 170-hectare site, and workmen have so far clocked up 1,620,000 hours without a lost-time accident.

According to the schedule, they should have completed 19.2 per cent of the project by now. However, they are currently 3.1 per cent ahead of their target and have now finished 22.3 per cent of the circuit.

A total of 1,500 workmen are working day and night to complete the task.

Recognised track designer Tilke is the consulting engineer and architect. All building work is expected to be finished by August.
