Projects-Access Scaffolding and Formwork Company (Projects-Access), a joint venture between Projects of Bahrain and Access of the UAE, has recorded significant growth since its establishment earlier this year.
Formed to serve the growing rental and supply market for steel scaffolding, formwork and shoring products in the region, Projects-Access also meets the substantial in-house civil construction, maritime and industrial requirements of the Projects group of companies.
Under general manager Joseph Brown, the company has been targeting the general construction, industrial, petroleum, petrochemical and marine sectors in Bahrain, the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia, and Qatar to provide high-end scaffolding and formwork equipment and services.
Access was established in Ajman in the UAE in 1988, and has become one of the region's leading manufacturers of access scaffolding and formwork. Originally established as an export plant manufacturing to BS and Australian standards, the company operates autonomous scaffold companies in Europe under Toughscaff UK and Toughscaff Espana. Sizeable scaffolding operations using Access systems are based in Birmingham, Nottingham and London and substantial quantities of scaffolding and formwork systems are exported to Eire.
According to Stan Bontoft, group managing director of Projects Holding, the formation of the new company reflects the key importance of scaffolding systems to the group's civil and maritime operations.
'Projects-Access is set to become a key element in the group's strategic expansion in the GCC,' says Bontoft. 'Any project requiring access for blasting, painting and any contracting work can benefit from the Access system. New construction projects in Bahrain and regional projects such as the expansion of Jubail Industrial City are ideally suited to the scaffolding and formwork systems. The system is also proven for the refurbishment of existing facilities including housing, high-rise buildings, defence installations, bridges, power stations, petroleum and petrochemical installations and special formwork projects.
'The various divisions of Projects have been procuring substantial quantities of Access scaffolding for our own construction requirements. Importantly, the robust Access proprietary system meets the stringent health and safety standards and international regulations for quality access systems,' adds Bontoft.
Headed by contracts manager James McIlear, Projects-Access has secured a number of prestigious projects this year - on the VIP tower for the Formula 1 grand prix racing circuit, the Shaikh Khalifa crossing and maintenance of the six stacks for the Manama power station in Adliya.
The new company provides scaffolding formwork and shoring products for hire together with a skilled workforce for major shutdowns and turnarounds at petroleum facilities as well as construction and fabrication contracts.
