Spoerry, Gulf House win Al Marsa work

01 September 2003

Spoerry Architecture of France and the local Gulf House Engineering have been awarded the consultancy works for the BD100 million ($265.9 million) Al Marsa Floating City project in Bahrain.

The project - owned by Al Shamil Bank and YBA Kanoo Group - involves the design, management, construction and marketing of 215 waterfront villas, chalets and flats covering a land area of 53,430 sq m within the Amwaj islands development on the northeastern tip of Muharraq.
The project comprises two sections: residential and commercial. The residential aspect of the project was launched in June and will be completed in three years time while the overall project is scheduled to completed by  the contracting company, Chapo (Charilaos Apostolides), in June 2008.
The city will have a series of canals, allowing boats and jet skis to be moored right outside each property.
There are 13 different designs of villa/chalet and flat types to choose from. The largest properties are five-bedroom villas complete with garden, swimming pool and boat shelter.
The sale of residential villas began three months ago and 70 per cent of the project has been sold so far. Most of the buyers are westerners with a mix of Bahrainis and other nationalities.
Foreigners will now be granted residence visas to Bahrain if they buy properties in Al Marsa, Amwaj Islands, tourism and financial projects and other specific locations for high-rise buildings.
