Six sports clubs on way

01 September 2003

Bahrain's Works and Housing Ministry is to build six model sports clubs in the country, said an official.

Acting assistant under-secretary for projects, construction and maintenance Mohammed Khalil Al Sayed said the clubs will be in Riffa, Al Najma in Hoora, Sitra, Jidhafs Youth Club, Al Etifaq in Duraz and Tadamen in Demstan.
He said building work on the clubs would start when the ministry, in co-ordination with the General Organisation for Youth and Sports (Goys), received confirmation of the proposed plots of land to be allocated.
He said tenders were expected to go out in October for the Riffa model club project.
Work, to start at the beginning of next year, is expected to cost an estimated BD900,000 ($2.39 million). The club would include covered and open air playgrounds, racing tracks, a spa, swimming pool, car parks, a mosque and other facilities.
