A fourth Dubai Creek crossing will cost Dh450 million ($122.5 million) to build, says a study conducted by the Dubai Municipality.
The planned bridge at Ras Al Khor, to be built 1.5-km west of Garhoud Bridge, will have five lanes in each direction, with the option of a sixth lane in the future, when demand rises. It will be 15 m above the high tide mark, allowing ship movement in Al Khor without the need for a lifting span and is expected to be completed by March 2006.
The project is expected to alleviate traffic problems along Sheikh Zayed Road to the south and as far north as Sharjah.Still in its early stages, the project will include a new four-lane approach starting from the first interchange on Sheikh Zayed Road in the direction of Za'abeel, continuing to the first road crossing in the Jaddaf area, all the way up to the new Ras Al Khor Bridge.
Work on the intersections includes the construction of a northbound flyover and exit from Al Khail Road to Ras Al Khor Road at the intersection with Road 309. The flyover will have a westbound loop at its intersection with Oud Metha Road while two left-in and left-out directional ramps will provide access to the Jaddaf area.
A full cloverleaf junction will be placed at the intersection with the second Za'abeel Road while a single point diamond interchange will form the intersection between Garhoud and Riyadh Road.
