The master plan for Dubai Silicon Oasis (DSO) being prepared by US engineering consultancy IDC-CH2M is scheduled to be completed by the year end.
DSO will be located on the outskirts of Dubai leading to Al Ain on an area measuring 6.1 million sq m for the four-phase project. It will include facilities such as foundries focusing on micro and 'opto' electronic components, which will be built at a cost of Dh1.5 billion ($408.4 million).
DSO will be a city by itself providing all kinds of services associated with knowledge and technology parks in the whole Middle East.
There will be a design centre, fabrication plants, research and development centres, to add to the specialised academic institutions and residential areas.
DSO will also fill a major role in Dubai's Strategic Vision for 2010, which is to have 'intellectual capital' contributing 20 per cent of GDP.
