Dubai-based Hepworth PME has announced its transition to lead-free uPVC material for potable water pipe production.
Hepworth is the region’s foremost manufacturer of BS Kitemark plastic pipes and fittings and has been awarded an extension to its existing BS Kitemark licence in respect of lead-free UPVC production, said a company spokesman.
“This makes us the first and only manufacturer in the region to be licensed in accordance with BS 3505,” he said. The company was presented a certificate at a British Standards Inspectorate function recently.
Following consultations with British Standards Inspectorate and also considering the environmental and commercial considerations, it was deemed appropriate to introduce lead-free uPVC material into the GCC market, he said.
Hepworth now manufactures pressure pipes within the range of 1/2 to 12 inches, which has been made possible by the use of new-generation stabilisers.
“This has ensured that our products are fully compliant with the European Normative and Drinking Water Inspectorate regulation No.25 and enables us to maintain our position at the forefront of the market,” he adds.
