01 July 2004

Construction on the Mall of the Emirates – an exciting retail and leisure complex in the Arab world – continues to move forward at an unprecedented rate, with the project looking well on track to meeting its target completion date of September 2005.

Progress on one of the complex’s key features – the first snow dome and indoor ski slope in the Middle East – is clearly visible from the highway and preparations are already underway for production of the real snow which will be utilised within, says Peter Walichnowski, chief executive officer, Majid Al Futtaim Investments.
Once complete, the mall – which occupies a distinct position on the Sheikh Zayed Road – will house over 350 shops within more than 2.4 million sq ft of prime retail and leisure space, making it one of the biggest malls outside North America.
“This is one of the most ambitious mall projects in the world, certainly outside of North America,” he says.
“Even now the construction site illustrates the sheer scale of the project and the fact we are on schedule is testament to the commitment of the entire team,” he adds.
