Dubai has launched the Dh18 billion ($5 billion) Dubailand project, said to be the biggest project in the tourism, leisure and the entertainment sectors in the Middle East. The project comes after two years of intensive studies and research with the participation of international consultancy companies.






In a bid to meet the need for increased support in the region for its Cat lift truck dealers, the Netherlands-based Mitsubishi Caterpillar Forklift Europe (MCFE) and the Japan-based Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI), have opened a new regional branch office at the Dubai Airport Free Zone (Dafza).






A fourth Dubai Creek crossing will cost Dh450 million ($122.5 million) to build, says a study conducted by the Dubai Municipality. The planned bridge at Ras Al Khor, to be built 1.5-km west of Garhoud Bridge, will have five lanes in each direction, with the option of a sixth lane in the future, when demand rises.






The master plan for Dubai Silicon Oasis (DSO) being prepared by US engineering consultancy IDC-CH2M is scheduled to be completed by the year end. DSO will be located on the outskirts of Dubai leading to Al Ain on an area measuring 6.1 million sq m for the four-phase project.






Engineering work on the Dh187 million ($ 51million) Zabeel Park in Dubai, which will use interactive technology displays and an array of walks and fountains, will start within the next 18 months, says a report.






Sweden-based Envac, a world leader in providing state-of-the-art, environmentally-friendly waste management solutions, has recently opened for business in Dubai. The company focuses on automated waste collection based on vacuum technology.






Work on the final part of a $250 million Sheikh Zayed bridge project to build a third crossing to Abu Dhabi Island has begun. A consortium led by Japan's Mitsubishi and Toshiba has won the Dh3 billion ($816 million) project to develop the 'L' power and desalination plant in Jebel Ali. Italy's Fisia Italimpianti earlier won the contract for the desalination part of the project, estimated at more than Dh1 billion.






The Abu Dhabi Civil Aviation Department has awarded the local MCM Group a Dh11 million ($3 million) contract to replace passenger boarding bridges and build a passenger lounge and other related works, all part of Abu Dhabi International Airport's expansion programme.
