Bids are under study for the construction of the 60,000-seat Shaikh Jaber Al Ahmed Stadium in the Ardiya area.
The estimated $190 million project, sited 12 km southwest of Kuwait City, will cover about 130,000 sq m. Construction is expected to begin by early March 2003 and take 27 months to complete.
The project involves construction of a 60,000-seat stadium with access roads, vehicle bays, administration facilities, and a helipad. The parking area will accommodate 6,650 cars. Training facilities will be connected to the arena level of the stadium by a tunnel.
The stadium will have stands covered by a cable net structure between an outer ring of steel and an inner tension ring of fibreglass.
The project manager is the local Project Analysis & Control Systems (Projacs). The consultant is a joint venture of local Seif Engineering Consultants and Germany's Weidleplan. The client is the Public Authority for Youth and Sports (PAYS).
