Emirates plans $81m apartments
Dubai: Expanding its presence in the hospitality sector, Emirates, the Dubai-based international airline, has launched a new project – Emirates Marina Serviced Apar-tments and Spa.

Located at the Dubai Marina development, the Emirates Marina Serviced Apartments & Spa will cater to leisure travellers and corporate executives who wish to stay for short visits or require extended stays in Dubai. It is scheduled to be completed by September 2006 at a projected cost of Dh300 million ($81.7 million).
Emirates Marina Serviced Apartments and Spa will offer plush, fully furnished apartments with 24-hour service. Featuring apartments noticeably larger than others, Emirates Marina Serviced Apartments and Spa offers a wide range of options including eight penthouse suites, 52 three-bedroom, 175 two-bedroom and 24 studio apartments.

Emirates Glass for 10 projects
Dubai: Emirates Glass, a Dubai Investment subsidiary and regional market leader in premium glass products, has successfully  executed contracts for the supply of more than 67,000 sq m of its products to 10 important regional projects.
As much as 42,000 sq m of glass went to seven projects in Kuwait and 25,000 sq m to three projects in Qatar. Emirates Glass is also in negotiations with various developers in Kuwait for the supply of an additional 40,000 sq m of its premium glass products, says Jerry Dowling, managing director, Emirates Glass.
“These contracts clearly reiterate our already dominant regional status as the leading supplier of premium glass products,” he says.
Meanwhile, Emirates Glass has also expanded its distribution network by appointing new agents in Iraq, Bangladesh, Jordan and Iran. The company has already started delivering glass to these new areas. Besides these, the company is also delivering glass to projects in the UK and Singapore.
Emirates Glass’ high-performance EmiCool, EmiCool Plus and EmiCool Sun glass types have a product code which acts as a shorthand description of the colour of the coating, the colour of the substrate glass and the nominal percentage of visible light transmittance. EmiCool’s durable, transparent metallic coatings are applied directly to float glass substrates using Leybold’s Magnetic Sputter Vacuum Deposit (MSVD) technology, he says.

Al Sharq plans 70-storey tower
Dubai: Al Sharq Development is launching a Dh551 million ($150 million) 70-storey tower to be located on Sheikh Zayed Road adjacent to Burj Dubai.
The tower is being designed by Burj Dubai architect Skidmore Owings and Merrill and is branded as structure needle tower.
The tower has varying floor-to-floor heights of 3.5 m to 5 m. There are 10 royal fitted penthouse suites and 390 luxury apartments with solarised triple glazing.
Amenities include 24-hour security and concierge services, computerised controlled air-conditioning, six voice-activated high-speed elevators, voice recognisable main entrance, three wide-screen cinemas, four swimming pools, five gymnasiums and five saunas, three steam rooms, pantry rooms, children's crèche, beauty salon, two continental cafes, one five-star restaurant, futuristic computerised parking for 800 cars and valet parking.

India firm launches Eden Gardens
Dubai: Indian construction company Lokhandwala Builders (LB) has launched a Dh210 million ($57.1 million) residential project named Eden Gardens at Dubai Sports City in Dubailand.
The 25-storey Eden Gardens development offers 318 fully-furnished studio, one, two and three-bedroom apartments that combine contemporary design and quality workmanship with the most modern amenities that include: a rooftop swimming pool with health club, spa, gym, sauna and Jacuzzi.
Eden Gardens will be located on 315,000 sq ft of land within the Dubai Sports City. The project is expected to be completed in early 2008 and is designed by National Engineering Bureau (NEB) of Dubai.

Al Jaber wins villa contract
Abu Dhabi: Al Jaber Building Establishment of Abu Dhabi has won the contract for construction, completion and maintenance of the first 280 villas and townhouses in Al Raha Gardens development from Aldar Properties. Following a pre-qualification and tender process, Al Jaber was awarded the contract to undertake the construction work for the first two communities, Al Muzera and Al Mariah, said a company statement.

Fountain plaza in Dubai
Dubai: Dubai Municipality will soon begin work on a massive water fountain project in Riggat Al Butteen, Dubai, which will be a major attraction in the middle of the area’s high-rise buildings.
The project, to be set up in an area between Bani Yas and Al Maktoum roads (close to Hilton Creek), would consist of 12 water fountains with a total length of 42 m and width of 14 m, said Mohammed Hassan Al Ali, head of Projects Design Section at the General Projects Department of Dubai Municipality.

PDC wins cooling deal
Dubai: The Dubai-based Palm District Cooling (PDC) has won the contract to supply chilled water for the Discovery Gardens residential development from Nakheel, a leading property developer. PDC will produce and distribute chilled water for a total connected capacity of 126,000 tons of refrigeration (TR).
Discovery Gardens will be a new community of spacious, multi-sized apartments set within a variety of surroundings such as lush foliage, desert blooms or beautifully-manicured lawns.
PDC has secured commitments to supply chilled water of at least 500,000 TR within the next three years to Nakheel's other major projects being executed including Palm Jumeirah Trunk, Jumeirah Lake Towers and Palm Jumeirah Crescent.
It is estimated that large-scale developments including the three Palms, Dubai Maritime City, Dubai Waterfront, Jumeirah Village North and South, require approximately 4 million TR of cooling and negotiations are continuing between PDC, Nakheel and other developers involved in these larger projects within the ‘growth corridor’ of Dubai, says Keith Levers, director for PDC.
Meanwhile, Trane Commercial Systems will supply 20 energy-efficient, low-emission EarthWise  Cen-TraVac chillers (48,850 TR) to the Discovery Gardens.

Largest Natuzzi store opens
Dubai: Natuzzi, the world-renowned Italian furniture brand, has inaugurated the company's largest stand-alone store in Dubai. Spread over 2,200 sq m, the store offers an extensive range of classic leather and casual furniture to modern, contemporary designs and includes a range of fine leather, glass, ceramic and metal accessories as well. 

New showroom opens
Dubai: Bahri & Mazroei Trading Company (BMTC), a 37-year-old renowned company headquartered in Dubai, has established a full-fledged branch/showroom at Al Muntasar Road in Ras Al Khaimah.
The company deals in electrical, lighting, fire detection and alarm systems, fountains and pools and allied products for the building and construction industry.
The new branch will showcase a range of residential, outdoor, garden and new products.

Oryx launches new apartments
Dubai: Oryx Apartments has launched its new freehold apartments project, Atlantic, in Dubai Marina.
The project is an 18-storey glass, marble and granite structure built to give residents the ultimate in comfort. It will have a rooftop swimming pool and an open-air Jacuzzi; a 1,000 sq ft gymnasium with the latest equipment; his and hers saunas and steam rooms.

Planters wins British award
Dubai: Planters, an interior landscaping company based in Dubai, has won its third British Association of Landscape Industries (Bali) award for the landscaping project at the BurJuman Centre. 
The award for the best international project follows two others received in 2002, for the UAE Armed Officers Club and in 2003, for the JW Marriott Hotel in Dubai.  “The award is in recognition of our continued efforts to be the best interior landscaping company in the Middle East,” says Jonathan Pardoe, general manager of Planters.

Proclad plans $109m complex
Dubai: Proclad Group International, a leading company in the oil and gas and petrochemical industry, has signed an agreement with Dubai Techno Park to set up a Dh400 million ($109 million) industry complex at the park.
The complex will be developed on a total land area of 500,000 sq ft, and will house more than 300 employees, including scientists, consultants, engineers and technicians. The complex will comprise Proclad’s manufacturing facility that will produce specialised products for the oil and gas industry, besides a professional training academy.

Ramesys opens Dubai office
Dubai: Ramesys, a leading supplier of construction business application software, has announced that it is expanding its operations with the opening of a new office in Dubai.  This follows Ramesys recently signing three-year agreements with Dutco Balfour Beatty Group, Al Futtaim Carillion and Khansaheb, three of Dubai's largest contractors, to continue their use of the business critical financial systems from Ramesys.

‘Thank you’ to workers
Dubai: In a rare gesture, Reef Real Estate, an investment company and developer of Madina Tower at Jumeirah Lake Towers, Dubai, hosted a lunch for workers of Emirates Belbadi Contracting Company to say ‘thank you’ for their efforts.
“When we think of Dubai’s progress, we often forget the contribution of the ordinary worker who works on the actual building of a project. We thought it was only natural that someone took a little effort to appreciate the sweat and toil of these people, who are an important contributor to what Dubai is today,” said Dominic Stoneham, marketing manager for Reef Real Estate.
