$99m new roadworks likely

Dubai Municipality is currently preparing preliminary designs for improving and enhancing efficiency of Al Ittihad Road at an estimated cost of Dh365 million ($99.34 million).
The project involves upgrading Al Nahda roundabout (Al Mulla Plaza roundabout) and converting it into a signal-controlled intersection. As part of the project, Al Qiyada Tunnel will be upgraded by dedicating the existing four lanes of the tunnel to the Dubai-bound traffic and constructing a new, four-lane tunnel for Sharjah-bound traffic, at an estimated cost of Dh175 million.
Also, there will be a direct ramp linking Al Quds Road to Al Ittihad Road to the direction of Dubai International Airport. The project also involves upgradation of the Airport Road interchange at a cost of Dh175 million by dedicating the whole existing tunnel for Dubai-bound traffic, constructing a new four-lane tunnel for Sharjah-bound traffic, and providing a direct ramp from Al Ittihad Road towards Dubai International Airport.
