MORE than 10 companies have signed up to participate under the umbrella of the Portuguese pavilion at this year’s Big 5 show in Dubai, according to the Portuguese Entrepreneurial Association (AEP), the organiser.

“Portugal has been able to create superior products of high quality, design and functionality, thanks to new technological advancements focused on design and product innovation and the launch of several brand names, backed by a dynamic attitude towards understanding the real needs of foreign markets,” says a spokesman for AEP.

The excellent tradition and know-how of the Portuguese construction and building materials industry ensure the finest products in the world, he adds.

“Based on centuries of rich history and culture, the Portuguese industry creates a unique style recognised all around the world as quality solutions,” the spokesman says.

A clear investment in excellence, innovation and design, associated with a particular emphasis on technological development over recent years, have allowed Portuguese companies to make major inroads into the export markets, he says, adding that Portugal today is competent in supplying cutting-edge products with high technical performance and global solutions tailored to today’s consumers.

The Portuguese companies participating in The Big 5 Show 2010 represent a number of sectors of the construction and building materials industry.

The companies that will be part of the pavilion are ATZ for locks, handles and metal accessories at Stand V125; Cinca for mosaic porcelain and unglazed floor tiles at Stand V127; Kerion for porcelain stoneware mosaics at Stand V131; Bruma for bath faucets at Stand V127; Heliroma for pipes for hot/cold water systems at Stand V133; Oli for flushing mechanisms and plastic cisterns at Stand W126; Larus for urban furniture at Stand W132; Osm for machinery for extractive industries (stones) at Stand W133; Lusavouga for machinery, industrial accessories at Stand W130; Starlight Ballons for lighting systems at Stand V141; and Amorim Isolamentos for acoustic and thermal insulation corkboard at Stand W131.

The AEP at the Portuguese Chamber of Commerce and Industry is a nation-wide business association, based in Oporto and founded in 1849.

It is a private non-profit making and public utility association that is dedicated to supporting the business activities of its members in areas in terms of:

Economic, legal and technological information;
Vocational training;
Organising trade fairs and congresses;
Internationalisation and promotion of the Portuguese economy;
Supporting the interests of the business community and reinforcement of the role of business associations at both national and international levels.

“In order to pursue its objectives, AEP has developed infrastructure and human resources – organised as a business model – consisting of business units capable of providing efficient services to its members and to the Portuguese economy.

It often acts as a social partner of the government in various matters with relevance to the development of the Portuguese economy. Its services are recognised not only in Portugal but also abroad,” the spokesman says.
