LIEBHERR has expanded its range of luffing jib cranes with the new 280 HC-L 12/24 Litronic  that bridges the gap between the 180 HC L – also a newcomer – and the 355 HC-L.

The new crane will be among a wide range of its latest product offerings that will be promoted at The Big 5 show this month.

The 280 HC-L will be available in three variants with maximum lifting capacities of 16, 24 and 28 tonnes.

“Important parameters in the design of the 280 HC L 12/24 Litronic were the demands in actual practice for operations at great heights and on extremely restricted sites. This resulted, for example, in the tight slewing radius of only 7.5 m,” says a spokesman for the one of the world’s leading manufacturers of construction and mining machinery.

As an alternative to the standard 355 HC tower system, the 280 HC L 12/24 Litronic can take advantage of the 355 IC climbing tower system, which can be used for both internal climbing as well as for climbing outside the building.

With the extremely compact tower cross-section of 1.9 m by 1.9 m, the 355 IC can also climb to the heights in narrow lift shafts. For very high free-standing crane heights of over 75 m, the 280 HC L 12/24 Litronic can also be mounted on the 500 HC tower system. With all the tower systems available, the new luffing jib crane can attain unique free-standing tower heights of up to 76.5 m.

Elaborating on its ease of operation, the spokesman says: “With the programmable logic control (PLC) system, at the push of a button the new 280 HC L 12/24 Litronic can move the load on a horizontal load path just like on a top-slewing crane with a trolley jib. Jib movements are automatically regulated by means of the hoist gear control in such a way that the load hook travels on a horizontal path, which is a huge advantage particularly with assembly and concreting work.”

As an option, Liebherr can also offer the newly-developed Lidat data transfer and location system for the 280 HC L 12/24 Litronic. Based on the latest in communications technology, Lidat provides information regarding the locating and operation of the machine, which allows for efficient management, optimum operational planning, and remote monitoring, he says.

High handling capacity
The new luffing jib crane is provided exclusively with stepless FC drives. Standard fittings include a 65 kW FC hoist gear, a 45 kW FC luffing gear with secondary brake, and two FC slewing gear units rated at 7.5 kW, which achieve precise load handling right to the exact spot needed, according to the spokesman. More powerful motor ratings are available as an option: 110 kW for the hoist gear, and 65 kW or 110 kW for the luffing gear. For operations on skyscrapers, single-line hoist gear systems for hook heights of up to 1,290 m can also be provided, and in this format load hooks move in harmony at up to 240 m/min.

“Thanks to the simple re-reeving of the load hook from one-line to two-line operation, rapid adjustment to different loads at best possible hoist speed is guaranteed,” he continues. “Easy re-reeving and very high empty hook speeds also provide added support in attaining high handling capacities, and achieve even greater economy for the crane on site.”

The structural design of the 280 HC-L was also optimised with regard to transport costs, as well as safety in assembly and operation. The adapters for the guide section can be unbolted, which allows for transport in 40-ft cube containers. The slewing platform is very easily accessible, allows for rapid assembly, and adds to safety and security at work.
On the crane, the safety device of the secondary brake on the FC luffing gear and as an option for the FC hoist gear ensures even more towards absolutely safe operation, he adds.

Liebherr-International is the Swiss holding company of the Liebherr Group, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of construction and mining machinery. Liebherr products are developed and manufactured at 25 production plants in 11 countries in Europe, North and South America, and Asia. The company's earth-moving machinery division makes excavators, crawlers, loaders, and mining trucks, which account for about 30 per cent of sales. Its construction machinery division produces a broad variety of construction cranes, as well as pipe-laying machines, concrete mixing plants, and ready-mix concrete trucks. The company’s wide range of cranes includes stationary tower cranes, mobile cranes, and crawler cranes. Cranes account for about one-third of Liebherr’s revenues.

Liebherr-International will be present at Stand J131 in the Zabeel Hall.
