Emaar Properties has begun construction work on a prestigious 17-storey office and residential development in Deira, Dubai.
The new towers, to be called Emaar Towers, is the first major project of the company in the heart of Deira and will feature 75 apartments and 16 floors of commercial offices.
Located adjacent to the ClockTower roundabout at the foot of Al Maktoum Bridge, the building will provide residents and office workers with spectacular views across Dubai Creek and Deira.
Other elements of the development include secured parking for 320 cars, recreational and sports facilities and convenience retail area featuring restaurants, coffee shops and grocery stores for both tenants and office staff.
The total building area of Emaar Towers will be nearly 330,000 sq ft and the project is planned for completion by March 2003.
The main contractor for the building will be Al Basti & Mukhta, the design consultant is Nabil Gholam and Associates Architects, lead consultant is the Norr Group Consultants International Limited and the subgrade contractor will be Middle East Foundations.
Foundation work on the tower has been completed and required the excavation of nearly 3 million cu ft of earth to lay down the foundations for the building.
Meanwhile, Emaar plans to build a multi-million-dollar leisure and sports complex to attract more tourists to the UAE.
The firm said in a statement that work on the project involving two golf courses, an equestrian centre, a hotel, 1,800 villas and 400 houses, is due to start next month.
The project is located on the juncture of three key ring roads leading to Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and Dubai, the company said.
The resort hotel features 50 individual chalets for guests and 400 housing sites overlooking the golf course. The plan also includes 400 town houses, complementing the golf and equestrian themes of the development.
"The golf element will be at the heart of the initial development planning. The new 7,200 yard green "Palms" course is capable of hosting international tournaments and complements the course at Emirates Hills. The new project will also have a dedicated 6,400-yard course desert golf course, which has been designed by a well-known desert golf specialist," the statement said.
