Routine maintenance work on the King Fahad Causeway has been delayed by the shortage of some vital materials.
The project was supposed to be completed last month but was suspended until the additional plastic reinforcements required are received.
The reinforcement of the bridge expansion joints will then take another week to complete, said causeway assistant director Shaikh Ebrahim bin Abdulla Al Khalifa.
The project is the first of its kind since the causeway opened 15 years ago.
Meanwhile, a proposed VIP lane across the causeway is to be finished by the end of January.
