Ajman signs airport deal
The UAE emirate of Ajman has signed a Dh367 million ($100 million) contract with a British firm to build an international airport.
The terminal, which would be the seventh commercial international airport in the UAE, is expected to become operational in the second-half of next year, local media reported.
It said the UK's Wiggins Group has won the build-operate-transfer (BOT) contract to construct the terminal and allied infrastructure.
Project work at the Al Helou site near the Ajman Cement plant is set to start soon, the report said.
The facility would cater to both international passengers, airfreight and business jets market and would include a private jet terminal with maintenance facilities and would serve as a complete air service station.
"Wiggins already operates eight airports in the US and Europe, and plans to expand its network to 20, the Ajman facility being its first in this region," Amin said.
QP moves on cooling project
Doha: Qatar Petroleum (QP) has taken a major step in its drive to set up a common seawater-cooling system project at Ras Laffan industrial city.
The company has issued a letter of intent to a consortium of Athens-based Consolidated Contractors International Company (CCC) and Japan's Chiyoda Corporation for the project. The engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract will be worth about $300 million.
The two-year project includes dredging a 1.5 km channel to depths of 4.5-9 m and the construction of two breakwaters, a pumphouse, intake and discharge channels and a chlorination plant.
The common cooling system will meet the seawater-cooling requirements of the Ras Laffan independent water and power project and future industrial capacity planned in the area.
Qatar to build roads, schools
Doha: Qatar's Municipal Affairs and Agriculture Minister Ali bin Mohamed Al Khater has signed two contracts worth QR7.67 million ($2.3 million) with local firms to build roads and schools.
The first contract worth QR5.31 million is for construction of Jassasiya Road at the New Rayyan area. Work is expected to be completed in October next year.
The second contract worth QR2.36 million is to build five schools in Doha and adjacent villages. Work is expected to be completed in October, 2003.
The ministry has also has signed two other contracts worth QR19.03 million with two local companies for renovation and design of roads in the Shamal and an industrial area.
