Limitless uses Victaulic couplings

01 December 2007

About 99 per cent of pipes installed for HVAC, fire protection and chilled water systems in four buildings of the Limitless project at Jebel Ali in Dubai are using Victaulic grooved coupling systems.

Victaulic’s couplers are user-friendly and ensure speedy assembly/dismantling while also doing away the need for welding, says a spokesman for Victaulic.
The coupling systems are being used on the 24-km-length of piping in the 14-storey buildings, says Uzair Ghazi Mohamed, area sales manager, Victaulic, Dubai.
“The need for the speedy supply of grooved piping systems for a vast length of piping was met through a huge stock ($2.5 million) in the Victaulic warehouse in Dubai, though any additional need could be supplied through our massive stock in Belgium,” Mohamed adds.
Basheer Massad, operations manager, B K Gulf, which is handling the construction of the four Limitless buildings, says: “The use of such pipe-joining solutions has saved us a lot of hassle and time in the construction process, besides also doing away with the exercise of obtaining permits for welding equipment and safety which is needed in case of welding work.
“Every project has risk assessment and the use of Victaulic products was an assurance of overcoming this problem,” said Massad.
“With BK Gulf completing work well ahead of time, the developer has awarded us the second phase of the Limitless project – comprising 28 storey buildings – and construction is expected to begin soon,” he adds.
“The pipes are fitted in such a way that they can compensate for 2 to 3 m of ‘sway’ in tall buildings. The uniqueness of the Victaulic pipes is that they are demountable – unlike welded pipes – and have been used in several buildings the world over,” he adds.
